I Believe It’s Time for a Change

As I look at the evil, rebellion, sickness and sin in the world today, I believe we are in the time-period the Bible calls “The Last Days.” You can read about the last days in Matthew, chapter 24, 1 or 2 Timothy 3, and Revelation. The last days are the final days of God’s plan for people on this earth and the end of time as we know it. This is the time when people will eventually be judged according to the choices they have made and the deeds they have done. Soon Jesus will come to rapture the church and take His bride to heaven. The final days, for people who are still alive then, will offer the last choice of responding to God and choosing where you will spend eternity: heaven or hell.

As Christians, we need to seek after God and to share the Gospel or “Good News” about Jesus and His work on the cross at Calvary with those around us more than ever before. We need to make the most of every opportunity to let people know the hope of Jesus Christ, that they are forgiven, can be born again, and can become an adopted child of God. There is deliverance, healing, hope, and salvation for anyone who will believe, accept Him into his/her heart, and establish a personal relationship with Jesus.

Throughout the past 40 years many of the churches I attended have taught, and continue teaching, a multitude of Bible stories and topics from the Old Testament. Though these stories and topics are good to learn, I question the priorities of those who spend a great deal of time teaching the Old Testament while multitudes of people, who don’t know about Jesus and salvation, step closer each day to spending eternity in hell. Sure, the Old Testament stories are relevant and provide great spiritual truths, but are the people in our churches prepared to meet Jesus? Do they know the great future available to them if they believe in faith that He died, was buried, and rose again to pay the penalty for their sins? Do the principles of living the Christian life and walking in the spirit? Shouldn’t we teach these things as a priority since our time is short?

Also, we need to be making disciples and evangelists who can We should also teach them about being baptized with the Holy Spirit with the sign of speaking in tongues. This is an endowment of power God puts in us (a filling) so we can be His ambassadors and witnesses on this earth.

We need to teach our students about the love of God and the Great Commandments—to love God first, love our neighbors, and even love our enemies. Though we love the people, we hate the sin they partake it—and we all partake in sin at times.

We also need to teach our students about the great spiritual battle we enter when we get born again and come to Jesus Christ. We need to teach them endurance, perseverance, the sharing in the suffering of Christ, persecution, and how to fight spiritual warfare.

As a former Bible teacher and a Christian Author, I believe many Christian churches and companies that make Bible teaching materials need a fresh new focus that meets present-day and future needs, a focus that makes Jesus Christ the center of our lives and teachings, and prepares people for living the Christian life and watching for the coming events as established in the book of Revelation. We need to prepare as many people as accept Christ to live out their daily life as a true believer and be prepared for the rapture and coming of Christ our Lord.

When Jesus Christ accomplished His work on the cross and rose again, He fulfilled the Mosaic Law so New Testament believers are no longer required to do the sacrifices and activities under that law. Rather, we are under the New Testament (covenant) of grace and in Jesus Christ, if we believe by faith, we are saved. We are saved by what Jesus did on the cross, not by our deeds. We do good deeds because we love and want to serve God and others. We were cleansed by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and clothes with His righteousness, not our own. We cannot earn our way to heaven with our own abilities, no matter how many things we do. So why do some churches put the Old Testament laws in their requirements and in so doing, put stumbling blocks in the way of believers?

In Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 NKJV the Bible says, “There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot (…).” I believe the time has come for us to evaluate our focus, our Bible-teaching materials and methods, and our goals. Do they line up with what the Bible teaches? Do they focus on the immediate needs of present-day believers? Are we focused on evangelism of lost souls? Are we making the most of every opportunity? Or are our lessons and sermons distracting, irrelevant to the present needs of our people, or only a side issue? Do we have our priorities in order?

As I write this, the Holy Spirit is also ministering to me. I need to examine my priorities and get plugged in to my local fellowship again. I need to get going again as I took a break to regroup and get healed up after some medical issues.

New Curriculum Project Postponed

Several months ago I wrote about working on a couple of curriculum projects. Unfortunately, things have changed. Though I will still be working on them, it did not work out to put them online. The pages that print out are not good to use for student worksheets and the print is so small that it’s very difficult to read. Therefore, I will be doing the following:

Choices and Consequences will a book to read with suggestions for the readers to consider and possibly put to use in their own personal lives. I am working to finish it and move on to the Bible curriculum.

The Living Stones Curriculum will still done for ages 4 through grade 12. It is a big project and will take quite a while to complete. I am going to have to find a way to self-publish it in book form so that it can be purchased and used at home. This will cost me more but at least the end result will be something people can use for schooling. I am still considering options for getting this made so that I can keep the cost down as low as possible. I look forward to creating these materials and making them available in the future.

I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

New Curriculum Project

I am presently working on building an online Bible curriculum. I am starting the first nine-week quarter of this material for parents to use to teach their preschoolers (ages 4-5) about God. This curriculum is being constructed on my website http://www.christianeducation.com for all to see. The first quarter is called “Who is God?”

These materials are available for all to see and use to teach their children, and use of it is copyrighted but free for the purpose of teaching Bible to others. It cannot be sold for any purpose without written permission. You can contact me via email and the address is on each of my blogs.

I’m writing this post to let people know this curriculum is in process so they can check it out if they are interested in Bible lessons. I plan to create four quarters of curriculum for students from pre-k through grade 12. This will be a long process but I truly believe God wants me to do this. I want to obey God, create Bible materials for people who can’t afford to pay for expensive schools or expensive Bible lesson materials, and also for those who can’t readily access Bibles and lesson materials across the globe.

I am not promoting disobeying any law within a country that does not allow entrance of the Bible into its land but I want to make my materials available in places where Bible materials are scarce. I want to do what God has asked and take part in the great commission. Jesus said for us to take the gospel all across the world, beginning in our home area and reaching out worldwide. The internet websites are my way of spreading the Gospel across the globe!

I look forward to sharing these materials and I trust God to accomplish what He has planned with this writing ministry. My current websites are:

Hidden Treasures: A Collection of Writings by William Curtis Harvard is now Available on Amazon.com

April 7, 2020

Late this evening my latest book project became a reality. Hidden Treasures: A Collection of Writings by William Curtis Harvard was completed and can now be purchased exclusively on Amazon.com. William Curtis Harvard is listed as the main author and I am also listed as an author. Several others have also contributed to this book. Hidden Treasures has been a challenging project that my husband, Steve, and I began in 2012. It has been a challenge and many hours were spent researching quotes and other information Curt retrieved from reading magazine articles and news publications. These quotes, etc. needed to be researched so proper credit could be given to the originator and the copyright law could also be observed. Also, scripture verses had to be changed from the New King James version of the Bible to the King James version which is now public domain. Though the task of compiling these articles was an overwhelming challenge, God got us through it.

I hope you all enjoy reading the heart-warming stories and wisdom literature contained in the pages of Hidden Treasures! The treasures you will find in this book are mainly unseen as they originate with the Holy Spirit who works through Curt to share. Among the treasures are the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the mercy and grace of God, and the precious pearl–Jesus Christ. You will find many other treasures as you read through the pages of this book.

Hidden Treasures! was also meant to be a legacy and remembrance of brother Curt Harvard. Curt was an Elder at Sandpoint Christian Center for several years as well as a teacher at Bonner Gospel Mission. He is missed by many who still walk their pilgrimage with the Lord while Curt has gone home to heaven. Thank you, God, for the time we had with brother William Curtis Harvard!

Apartment Living

Living in an apartment can be a real challenge. Many times there are circumstances brought about by landlords and neighbors that cannot be changed by the individual(s) living in that place. Since people cannot change other people or several circumstances, the problems of life can appear to be giants and cause great distress. This became apparent when a friend and brother-in-Christ began telling us about his situation at his apartment complex.

Our friend was renting an upstairs, one-bedroom apartment where he lived for about twelve years. However, a couple of years ago a man who was also related to our friends landlord, moved into the apartment next door to our friend. Air vents, which looked somewhat like dryer vents, were connecting the apartments to help provide more airflow in the rooms. However, these air vents picked up every little sound made and the sound waves carried it to the neighbor’s apartment. As a result, if our friend turned a page in a book or if he rolled over in bed and the box springs squeezed, this new neighbor would pound on the apartment walls and begin hollering. This became a continual problem, oppressing our friend so much that he couldn’t move about, even quietly, to do what was needed in his own apartment.

A few other renters commented that they were either searching for other places to live or were moving out already. Someone mentioned the possibility of persecution of Christians but I don’t know if this is really the case.

With multiple health issues of our own, my husband, Steve, and I worked to help our friend and brother-in-Christ move into a bedroom in our home. We began, with help from our Pastor and a friend, clearing out and moving items in our home to free up a room for our friend and to get rid of clutter. This project took a few months and will continue on even after our friend is moved in.

As we helped our friend pack up and move his belongings, I noticed a strong smell of tobacco, possibly even pot, permeated the air in the hallway and my friends apartment–though my friend does not smoke. I prayed that God would help me so that the smoke would not trigger an asthma attack and result in breathing problems and coughing for months. I don’t know how my friend could stand breathing in that bad air for so long.

We are getting near the end of this moving task. Only a few large items remain to be moved. Our friend had lined up some people from his church to come and move the larger items on Tuesday. Lord willing, our friend will be moved before the end of October.

During this transition period we have faced some challenges. The door knob on our friend’s room will not latch and our dog, Roxy, keeps going in his room. She is still a puppy who likes to chew on things. She apparently got up on the bed and got one of our friend’s hearing aids. Now we will have to pay for the repair. We will keep the door barricaded until Monday when someone is coming over to fix the door knob. We may also have to fix an electric heater in my friend’s room. In spite of the challenges, I thank the Lord that we could make room for our friend in our home and get him out of that dreadful, apartment-living situation.

I’m Blessed to Have Opportunities to Share

On Friday, October 5th, Steve and I were blessed to be able to share God’s word with a man whom we disciple each Friday morning. We have been going through the book of proverbs and learning some of the wisdom of Solomon and others who contributed to that book of the Bible. Proverbs has many nuggets of wisdom on a multitude of issues we all deal with on a daily basis. It is a great book for those who want wisdom to help them on their journey through life.

After our Bible study we went to our area Walmart to pick up a couple of items. As we entered the parking lot we saw a homeless woman with a sign asking for help. I have learned over the years that giving homeless people money is not always the answer. It may provide them with a meal (if they spend it wisely) but frequently the homeless are looking for money for alcohol or other wants. Therefore it is wiser to buy them food or help them get connected to churches and/or other organizations that can truly meet their needs. So I gave this woman the contact information for an organization in our area that helps people in need deal with their true issues. I also referred the woman to an organization that provides shelter for the homeless in our county.

I don’t know if the woman followed up and connected with the organizations that can help her, but that is between her and God. At least I tried to reach out and demonstrate the love of God with someone in need. If I were homeless, I would hope someone would reach out and show me the love of God and direct me to those who can truly help. How can I do anything less?
